Frequently Asked Questions

Please feed back, your opinion is important as it allows us the tremendous public service that we strive to provide.

Q I have several questions. From reading the description for the OnGuard Kid Alert system (watches), I understand that in the event of an emergency, a child can activate the signal. What I am wondering is if a child goes missing, can the parent activate the signal via remote? And if so, what is the distance limit for the remote to still work?
A No, OnGUard Kid doe not have that feature, but IonKids, Loc8tor & most of the GPS devices do.

Q I always think the worst, i.e., what if someone tried to take a child by putting a chemically soaked hankercheif over their mouths? Then they would not be conscious to be able to activate the signal on their own. Is there any device(s) that you would suggest to use that would work in a case like that? Thank you so much. :)
A Yes, there is. Yes, there is. This year, we are working on bringing in some GPS products that do the job. Right now, in the store there are a couple of GPS devices, namely Gemtek that has done the job that we know of. Please watch the video to see how, here:

http://www.myfoxdfw.com/myfox/MyFox/pages/sidebar_video.jsp?contentId=3107257&version=1&locale=EN-US

GPS is not limited in range, you can find the child within the US, Canada, even Europe, however, it is a bit costly. It is not $500 as the video claims, it is only $299 in my store, plus the $40 off of a 2-year contract, with $19.95 a month. Find this product here:

But again, the devices that I am bringing in will be competing with these.

Now, if you can not invest so much to start testing the waters, you are welcome to RFID devices, whch require no monthly fee or contracts. Just remember that the range for IonKids or Loc8Tor (in store later this fall), is only about 400-600 ft away. No RFID can detect any further. Traditional Walkie-Talkies can reach farther, but do not have an alarm.

We recommend younger kids wearing RFID devices as they are usually not very far from the parent when something happens. But with older kids that go to school, ect. it's just better to work with GPS, wireless and internet technologies for tracking.

Q Does Wherifone work in mainland UK as a GPS tracker providing street address? Also is it a mobile phone type unit or an armband as I am interested in this device for my toddler?
A I recommend Gemtek. It's a GPS locator & communication device in one, but because your child is too young to communicate, all you can be sure of is that for as long as the battery is charged in this device, you can locate the unit from your cell phone, your internet or a 1-800 number, using an on-line map like Google Earth or MapQuest.

Watch the story of a 13 y.o. girl who was found with the help of Gemtek GPS.

Q When will the Wherify GPS service be available in Europe and elsewhere?
A It is not definite that Wherify will ever be available in other countries as a GPS locator. However, I recommend Gemtek GPS communicator instead, which currently covers many coutries.

Q Can a child set an alarm using MommyI'mHere RFID locator?
A No, it's activated by the parent, AmberWatch is activated by the child. However, both are one-way communication devices. Two-way RFIDs are IonKids & Loc8Tor. Most radio-frequency devices are one-way alarms, while most GPS devices are 2-way communication devices.

Q Does the Child Pool Safety Alarm and Pool Gate Alarm come with everthing on the picture? I would need all six wristbands as I have a daycare.
A The SafetyTurtle swimming pool alarm set comes with one wristband, one base unit and a charger. You may purchase additional wristbands at $46.95. Make sure they are all of the same color if you are using them in one location. Customers who purchase the Child Pool Safety Alarm, also purchase Pool Gate Wireless Alarm to double the protection. This devices can prevent drownings of elderly and pets as well.

Q My little girl has a severe form of autism with mental retardation. We are wondering if her disability will qualify her for Medicaid covering the I-On-Kids device.
A We never became a Medicaid provider nor have we heard about any customers gettin their units paid for by Medicaid. Ask your social worker case or disability representative. Many times they are able to apply for grants from local/state or federal agencies for financial help.

Q How long will the batteries last before needing to be recharged on the Wherify phone? What other phones work outside US, for how much?
A Battery Life:

* Standby Time: Up to 4 days
* Talk Time: Up to 300 minutes
* Number of Locates: Up to 100 Locates

Monthly Plans start from $19/months.

Q How does the AmberAlert® watch know how far away from the parents it is to emit a louder noise?
A It does not. However, the moment that the alarm is activated by the child, Amber Watch senses each unit of distance (which can be heard at ranges of 900 – 1000 feet, that's a few football fields) as follows: the microchip processor drives a unique resonant cavity located on the bottom of the watch, which is capable of amplifying the signal into 115-120 dB sound. Remember, the decibel system is logarithmic, not linear, actually doubling the loudness with each unit of distance by 6 dB. Properly worn, the proximity of the resonant cavity to the skin can magnify the sound level.

Q I am a worrysome mother and my 5-year-old daughter will be starting kindergarden soon. I realize that I am probably the only mother who wants to get her 5-year-old a cell phone, but I would rather be safe than sorry. I am especially interested in TicTalk phone because of its' small size. I would like to know if this phone is sold in any retail stores yet, and if so where?
A You are not the only Mom who wants a safety and security for her child. In fact, this industry is in its infancy. More and more Moms, Dads, Guardians and Caregivers become interested in knowing where their children, elderly, or even pets are, with every passing day. Yes, the phones are sold in stores, they work just as any other mobile phone. Each carrier sells their own mobile phone. You may go to Verizon to purchase RAZR or LG MIGO, you may go to Cingular or Taarget to purchase Firefly. TicTalk is not sold in stores yet, but selected Malls sell them.

Buying the phone or its accessories is only half the job. You need a carrier to complete the application, activation and monthly services, including but not limited to, continuous Customer Support.

Q Are any of the Child IDs that you sell in InvincaShop adequate identification for taking the children outside U.S.?
A No, they are an additional or suplemental identification tool. The only document that is sufficient for taking children outside U.S. is a U.S. Passport. To apply for U.S. Passport go to nearest Post Office that provides Passport services. They will photograph the children & supply all the paperwork you need.

Q How do I register my I-On-Kids product for warranty registration?
A For the warranty information page, please go to www.ion-kids.com, followed by "support", followed by "warranty". Or, simply follow this link: http://ion-kids.com/warranty.html

Q I have a 3-year-old child. Will the AmberWatch adjust to fit a small wrist, so it cannot be easily removed? I'm thrilled to find out about this product. Great idea!
A Unfortunately AmberWatch is designed for children 6 and up, which is when they are capable of realizing the danger they may be in and activate the alarm. For a child 3 y.o. we can recommend Mommy I'm Here or I-On-Kids monitoring system.

Our products are age specific, and luckily, we can cover babies to 14-year old teens, moving on to GPS product line as they move  farther from the parent.

Q How can we make sure that no child wanders outside the range of daycares, schools, pediatric departments and other facilities?
A We suggest utiilizing a GPS feature called GEOFENCING around your facility, in which case if a child or an elderly strays outside of a pre-set range form the facility, the administration will be notified and a location will be revealed for a quick rescue. Please reference Gemtek device in our store.

Q Hi, what is the difference between the GiggleBug and the MommyI'mHere products?
A GiggleBug is for younger ones, toddler to about 2-2.5 y.o. After that we recommend MommyI'mHere.
